Level: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g., once a week or more) or intensively (e.g., four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; he/she is responsible for implementing the safeguarding policy by making sure that children are protected from any harm in the project implementation Area.

ROLE PURPOSE:
- Under the supervision of the WASH Officer, the WASH Assistants will be responsible for ensuring high quality and timely delivery of all the WASH-related Hygiene Promotion software and hardware component. The Hygiene Promotion Assistant is responsible for realization of hygiene promotion campaigns, surveys, cleaning campaigns, distribution of hygiene kits.
- He/she maintains good coordination with the WASH team, community hygiene promoters, and CLTS monitors, sanitation committees to ensure the quality of the implemented activities and provide technical support for all hygiene related issues.
- He/she ensures that SCI’s technical recommendations and procedures are followed. The Strategic objective of the Hygiene Promotion Assistant is through improving access to safe water and sanitation, and influencing good behaviour change in hygiene practices in project area. To ensure the complementarity of WASH hardware and software components to address existing WASH needs in the targeted communities. The position will also support WASH in emergency preparedness and response activities in the project areas.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Programme Support:
- To conduct community mobilization and engagement on hygiene promotion topics, such as handwashing, water treatment, sanitation, and waste management.
- To facilitate hygiene promotion sessions, workshops, and campaigns for various groups, such as children’s women, men, youth, and school children.
- To monitor and evaluate the hygiene promotion activities and report on the progress and challenges.
- Follow up on CLTS progress in the community, document success stories and lesson learned.
- To coordinate and collaborate with other stakeholders, such as local authorities, health workers, community leaders, and other humanitarian actors.
- To ensure the quality and adherence of the hygiene promotion activities to the standards and guidelines of save the Children and other relevant agencies.
- Conduct relevant technical training for WASH staff, members of water management committees, pump mechanics and local partners.
- WASH NFIs: coordination with local government actors, before demonstration and distributing the items to the beneficiaries to promote fair and equitable access to the WASH NFIs.
- Compile weekly, monthly, monitoring reports to promote programme quality report writing.
- Conduct trainings for field Hygiene and Sanitation volunteers, Water management Committees, community leaders and other key actors by ensuring gender equality in the programme.
- Assist in conducting CHAST training to school children, teachers and PTA members to promote good hygiene practices in the schools and at the community.
- Facilitating appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of essential WASH services and facilities by carrying out community mobilization activities, liaising with key stakeholders.
- Assist in the Construction of rainwater harvest systems, monitoring rain season, water treatment. Familiar with DPD1, DPD2, DPD3, FRC water quality test for drinking water at the Household level.
- Assist in carrying out Geophysical surveys to determine water levels for both shallow wells and drilling of boreholes. Keeping proper records of field expenditures and reports accordingly.
- Assist in Attending WASH Cluster meetings upon request from WASH Officer in the field
- Field monitoring, follow up on borehole drilling, rehabilitation, and water yards construction in the field location.
- As required, support WASH in emergencies (flood response, public health outbreak) planning and response interventions.
Capacity Building:
- Identify learning and training opportunities for Save the Children staff and partners and work as a mentor and role model for junior staffs.
Representation & Advocacy & Organisational Learning:
- Ensure that Save the Children`s work is coordinated with efforts of other agencies and Government, and take a leadership role within Interagency Coordination forums, ensuring the specific needs of children are being addressed.
- Advocates for minimum standards of humanitarian relief and maintained in accordance with the Sphere Charter and Save the Children`s Code of Conduct.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES
Essential:
- A Diploma in a relevant field, such as public health, social sciences, environmental health, community health, Diploma in civil, Water and Sanitation Engineering, Plumbing.
- At least 1-2 years of experiences in hygiene promotion or WASH-related projects in humanitarian contexts.
- Knowledge and understanding of the WASH situation and needs in Juba and South Sudan.
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse groups and individuals.
- Ability to work independently as part of the team.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with people from different backgrounds.
- Experience in working with local communities, children, and people with special needs.
- Experience in CLTS, PHAST, SLTC, SBCC and CHAST methodology.
- Experience in integration of WASH and other sectors (such as Health, Nutrition, Child Protection, Education, Food Security, Livelihoods, and effective community engagement approach.
- Committed to save the children principles with good understanding of the Save the Children mandate, child focus and an ability to ensure continues support.
- Experience in integration of WASH and other sectors (such as Health, Nutrition, Child Protection, Education, Food Security and Livelihoods and effectively engage communities in the implementation process.
- Mainstreaming of gender, disability inclusion and accountability to affected populations in WASH programming.
- Good computer skills and knowledge on Microsoft word, power point presentation, internet
- Fluency in English and local languages
Desirable
- Previous experience within a humanitarian aid organisation is a plus.
- WASH in schools (EiE setting) experience in South Sudan
- Experience in use of Engineering software AutoCAd, ArchCad, Water Cad if an add advantage
- Previous experience working within the regions of focus (county) in Southern Sudan
- Knowledge of locally spoken languages will be an added advantage.
